This retreat offers you five full days of classes with Harriet Hargrave at her lovely quilt shop in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, a western suburb of Denver.

Quilter’s Academy Volume 2 Boot Camp with Harriet Hargrave

Do you have problems making a 12” block 12” square? Do all your pieced units fit together perfectly? Do you have precise points all the time? Are your quilt tops flat and square and ready to quilt when they are finished? If you have answered no to any of these questions then the Quilter's Academy Vol. 1 Boot Camp will set you on the right path to precision piecing.

Boot camp will begin with learning about textiles (grain, weave, thread count, thread, etc.) and finding the correct seam allowance that allows your piece to fit together perfectly.

In five days you will make several small quilt tops from Quilter’s Academy Vol. 2 that address a number of different techniques and design elements and will increase in difficulty so that you will leave with a wide scope of skills and the ability to solve some basic piecing issues you may encounter in your future quilting endeavors.

This retreat is a great class for beginners but veteran piecers will come away with their skilled refreshed and refined.

Based on Harriet and her daughter Carrie’s best selling book Quilter's Academy Vol. 2 - Sophomore Year, a must have in every quilters' collection. It and its companions will be a library of great information, tools, and resources which can liberate your quiltmaking so you can make exactly the quilt you want, not just the quilt on the patterns you have purchased.

If you are serious about wanting to improve your piecing ability, this a great class for you and a wonderful 5-day get away.

Fees and Information for the Quilter’s Academy Boot Camp

Class, lunches and dinners.... $695.00
(includes lunch each day and your class fees with Harriet).
Airfare, dinner, hotel, and transportation not included.

Class begins at 4:00pm on September 12, 2011 and ends at 1:00pm on September 17, 2011.

Deadline for registration is September 1, 2011
(Registrations received after the Final Payment date will need to be paid in full at the time of registration).

Cancellation Policy

It is strongly suggested that you purchase Cancellation and Travel Insurance if you think that anything might change your plans. This can usually be purchased through your travel agent. Black Swan Quilting Retreats is not responsible for this type of insurance, it is your responsibility to obtain cancellation and/or travel insurance. All cancellations must be made in writing.

All canceled reservations will have the following charges:

   91+ days before retreat - $75.00
   90 - 61 days before retreat - $150.00
   60 - 31 days before retreat - $300.00
   30 - 0 days before retreat - No Refunds

Cancellations cannot be accepted after August 12, 2011. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registrations to another person, or enter a claim to your Cancellation and Travel insurance.

Returned Check fee: $75.00

Accommodations

When you register, you will be sent a list of several nearby hotels, all 2 1/2 stars to 4 stars and of varying rates. These hotels are recommended as they are close to Harriet's Treadle Arts and are easily accessible.

If you have family in the area, you are welcome to stay with them, we just ask that you keep your traveling distance under 15 miles from the store. Harriet’s Treadle Arts is located at: 6390 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.

We start class promptly at 9:30am and usually don't end until 9pm. Traffic is often an issue on the mornings and we would like everyone to arrive safely and in a timely fashion.

If you are in doubt as to the distance from a particular location, please contact Carrie and she can help you.

Every morning you will enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then your lunch will be catered for you at Carrie’s home, served family style and you will have time in the evening to enjoy one of the local restaurants for dinner.

Transportation

Renting a car is highly recommended so that you can easily get back and forth to and from Harriet's Treadle Arts where your class will be held and your hotel. Other options are available, please contact Carrie if you have questions about getting around Denver.

It is recommended that you make your airline reservations so that you arrive in Denver at least 3 hours prior to the start of the class on September 12nd, giving you enough time to pick up your luggage, car, get checked in at your hotel, and get to the store for the beginning of Boot Camp. Your return flight should leave 3 hours after the conclusion of Boot Camp, again so you can make the 30 minute drive from the store to the airport and get your car turned in.

Most of the recommended hotels are right off the I-70 corridor which is the gateway to the Rockies... if you are planning on having family members accompany you they will find endless things to do in and around Denver or within a short drive in the mountains, just ask Carrie for more information when you register.
