Sample Squares
Harriet has made available sample squares of all the battings below so that students can perform the batting test on page 58 of Heirloom Machine Quilting or page 117 of From Fiber to Fabric. She believes that every quilter needs to be able to choose the batting that enhances the quilt to its best ability, not just what is recommended or available easily. You can purchase these squares as a set or individually.

Mountain Mist Cotton
Mountain Mist cottons have been some of Harriet's favorites for years. Natural gives the most authentic 1930's look of any batting on the market, and is perfect for beginning machine quilters, as it has the highest shrinkage rate - good camouflage for mistakes. Blue ribbon is very 1800's in look and feel, and the new Gold (50% cotton, 50% poly) is a thin blend to give definition to stitches, with a more antique thin look.
